Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 1, 2025
ManualRack ("we," "our," or "the extension") is a Firefox browser extension that helps users search for product manuals and user guides. We take privacy seriously. This policy explains what information ManualRack accesses, what it does with that information, and what it does not do.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
ManualRack is designed to be private by default. We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifier
- Your browsing history or the pages you visit
- Your IP address beyond what is inherent in any outgoing network request
- Your location
- Any data entered into web forms or page content
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
2. What ManualRack Accesses Locally
ManualRack stores the following data locally on your device, within Firefox's extension storage. This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to any server we operate:
- Bookmarked manuals: When you pin a manual result, the document title and URL are saved in your browser's local extension storage for quick access.
- Recent searches: Your last 20 search queries are stored locally so the extension can display them as suggestions. You can clear these at any time from the extension's settings panel.
3. Search Queries and Network Requests
When you perform a search, ManualRack sends your search query to third-party manual repository services (such as ManualsLib, Manualzz, and similar public databases) to retrieve results. These requests are standard outbound HTTPS requests. The search query itself is transmitted as part of the request URL.
We do not operate any server that receives, logs, or processes your search queries. Any data handling by third-party manual repositories is governed by their own privacy policies, which are independent of ManualRack.
4. Permissions Explained
ManualRack requests the following browser permissions:
- Network access: Needed to query manual databases and return search results. Used only when you actively perform a search.
- Extension storage: Needed to save your bookmarks and recent searches locally on your device.
ManualRack does not request access to your tabs, browsing history, page content, downloads, or any other browser data.
5. Third-Party Links
Search results link to PDFs and pages hosted by third-party websites such as manufacturer websites and public manual repositories. ManualRack is not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. When you open a manual link, you are accessing that third party's server directly.
6. Children's Privacy
ManualRack is a general utility tool. We do not knowingly collect any information from users under the age of 13. The extension does not collect personal information from any user, regardless of age.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
8. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or about how ManualRack handles data, please reach out via the support page on the Firefox Add-ons website.
